Elfsborg Lutheran Church

Elfsborg - Pomeroy

"A little about Elfsborg...

"Five young men came from Fort Dodge, Iowa on March 19, 1869, each selecting a homestead in Section 12 of Colfax Township. The country was barren. There were no trees, but sloughs everywhere. A meeting to organize a church was held March 13, 1873, in the home of John Soder, located about 1.5 mouthwest of where the church now stands. The name Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Elfsborg Church was chosen due to the fact that most of the charter members came from a place called "Elfsborg" in Sweden.

"Let Thy Church, O Heavenly Father,
Be to us an open way
To that temple where we gather
Round Thy throne some blessed day."
